While I was at a Ushaw College craft fair this weekend I noticed some lovely little needle felt Sleeping Dormice on a stall by BizzyStitchin' from Bishop Auckland. They were so cute they inspired me to do this painting for Christmas.
I have always been a workaholic so even though I was worn out after the fair I could not wait till morning to do the finished drawing. So I was wondering about at 10 pm in the garden trying to cut some holly in the pitch darkness. ...

This painting is in two pieces. I needed an image for the back of the Woodland Fairies so I painted the Deer & Hare then put them behind the lanterns. I loved the deer painting more than the fairies so I painted the Fox & Badger to go on the front of the mug. The only trouble is I used different paper & I could not match the colours it's really hard trying to copy a painting even when its your own. Also I did go a little overboard on the berries on the tree so they had to be pruned on photoshop. I wish I could learn self restraint, if in doubt leave it out!
